Introduction to the One-Room Schoolhouse.
Interviews includes conversations with people who attended or taught in one-room or small schools in Southwest Virginia.
Images is an album of photographs of one-room and small schools in the area as well as a grade report card from the time period and rules for teachers.
Chapter 1: Facilities describes the buildings and grounds as well as furniture and classrooms.
Chapter 2: Administration and Staff discusses teachers and supervisors.
Chapter 3: Curriculum tells what teachers taught and what students studied.
Chapter 4: Discipline describes the methods used by teachers to keep order in the classroom and the behavior that was expected of students.
Chapter 5: Community discusses the ways in which the schools interacted with the community.
